I see it more and more (usually on TELEVISION not MOVIES) that Asians are getting roles that aren’t really stereotyped. It makes me happy…
Also does it seem like if you’re mixed Asian (white or black) you have a better chance breaking into the music/movie industry? Most of the “Asians” that are famous are mixed: Kristen Kreuk, Nicole Scherzinger (pussycat doll leader), Sharon Leal (Dream Girls), Amerie, Kimora Lee, Vanessa Hudgens, Vanessa Manillo, etc.

Yes and no.
It’s still rare to see a full-blooded Asian on American TV or movies playing a character who could have been cast in another race. There are lots of mixed Asians in Hollywood, but most people wouldn’t identify them as Asian at all. I’m familiar with most of the actresses you named and I had no idea some of them were Asian.
You do see a lot more full-blooded Asians on programs made in Canada or the UK, but a part of that is that those countries have public funding for the arts and officially multicultural goals. So in order to get funding, producers are obligated to cast Asian actors, sometimes even in starring roles.

I think Jet Li or Chow Yun-Fat are not mixed, but they even made it to the Hollywood !
I think it’s not important what is the colour of their skin, as long as they are good actors : )

They would also have a better chance if they are Japanese or Korean or both or have THOSE mixes(oh yeah and then there are Asians who were adopted by WASP couples!)…….Haha isn’t the “truth” so sad?
I would say that Asians who have a white dad/mum grow up being very sure of their identities whereas I have seen the typical Asian kid feel like he/she has to become something they don’t feel like becoming but do it because that’s what their parents expect of them and they end up not thinking about it. Be aware that I said typical and therefore don’t refer to exceptions that DON’T prove the rule; I know some who are really confident individuals.
There’s still a way to go with the un-stereotyping (especially movies) but then again, Asians are the ones who have to just turn down all these stereotypical roles. They probably should show how authentic they can be thru idk youtube or something and build up a base from there.
And Asians either try too hard to be like everybody else or try too hard to show how equal their Asian identity is to others or try too hard just being Asian. Once they can start laughing at themselves then can they get over these issues.
