I need to know if I should go to Columbia College or New York
Film Academy or is there any other film schools here in the
States that is cheap, because I’m constantly told that Columbia
And New York Film Academy is expensive. I was going to get
One of my other brothers opinion on this one, but their too
Caught in theirselves and there is no way I think that they could
Help at all. I mean on the right hand, I want to go away to film
School to kick start my time away from all the distractions in
My hometown, I stay in chicago. I have been in chicago for too
Long and want a fresh change of pace for once. I’m not even
Convinced that I should stay here for a while, because I like
To free from being under my family’s thumb and I want to be
On my own to find myself. I know if I don’t go that I will live to
Regret it. I hate my life living like I’m one without purpose,
Being who I am I need to do this for myself. I want to be a real
Adult, I am one, I’m in my 20’s, don’t feel..

Columbia College definitely! Let me tell you why… Even though New York Film Academy is a great place, after you finish your course your chance of finding work will be very limited. Unless you have money to make Films as a career, you should go there. By going to a college, you can get an education which is not limited to directing, acting, script righting and etc… Make sure you always have something to go back on when that doesn’t work. Good Luck!

Its ultimately up to you…but in my opinion you should check out Columbia College. I just applied there and am totally stoked to see if I’m accepted. Like the person above me said, they offer general education which is an excellent feature. All art colleges are private which will result in high tuition. But, you get what you pay for. Since your already in Chicago check and see if you qualify for any kind of chicago based scholarship. If not, apply for as many regular scholarships as you can. Don’t be afraid of student loans…they can be scary but figure out whats best for you. If you want to get away from your family move out of the house and stay on campus. You can definitely get out from under ur familys thumb and stay in the same city. You have to ultimately think about whats right for you in the long run. NY is an expensive city to live in…but if its what you really want I say go for it,you only live once. Columbia College is my choice….if your around, maybe I’ll see you there, lol.

NYFA is very expensive, but all good film schools are, and it isn’t a four year college, so the expense is sort of bundled up. I’d say go with NYFA, they’re one of the absolute best film schools out there, and yes, they are expensive. Try applying for as many scholarships as possible, that may help a lot. I’m personally going to an in-state college for four years, then going to NYFA as a graduate school. That’s another option. Good luck deciding!
