OK, here goes the story…
The war in Algeria had left him with loneliness when he came back to his country. So he decided to write to a radio of a foreign country, an Asian one, to ask for more information to do some kinds of voluntary works. Unfortunately, it was rare to have a person who could speak his language at that time. There was just this only girl who could reply to him, to say that there was no one who could communicate using his language to exchange information, that he’d better off choosing another country. Ironically, the guy demanded that the girl who had replied to him continue writing to him. Gradually, they exchanged personal information to each other and became pen friends.
It was a day in July of the 60s when this guy first came to an Asian country to meet the girl face-to-face after four years of letters. Having just got the baccalaureate, without status or money, the only thing this guy had was a suitcase containing just some clothings and a ring to propose to the girl. “If the girl turns down the proposal, I will fly all the way back home,” the guy thought in mind.
That day, the girl came to the airport to pick this guy up without any idea what this guy looked exactly like except her imagination about the guy through photo. Together they came back to the girl’s house.
Oddly enough, her family ( to be exact, her father) greeted him with warm welcome although it was the first time they met him, except for her traditional mother, who didn’t really like the presence of a foreigner in the house.
After some chats, the girl’s dad asked the guy “What do you want to do next with her?” - “I want to marry her,” said the guy. - “Ok,”the dad said without hesitation.
In spite of having lots of admirers and some relatives against their relationship, they got married 3 months after his arrival. He continued to work at this Asian country for some time before they flew back together to his hometown. Here, the girl gave him moral support to pursue his study into higher education. Together, they had one son and lived for more than 40 years until her death recently.

    hello Suzie..
Not too sure about some actions in the plot..
    1. Why was he lonely ? no family to come back to or a pied noir ( a resident of Algeria for generations but having to quit after the war ?)?
A case of PTSD (although the term was not coined then) ? remorses.
How old was he ? In his twenties ?
    2. What did he want to write about ?
    3. Why an Asian country ? And which one ? ( they would be quite closed off I imagine at that time, never mind other ramifications also…).
I would imagine that he chose an Asian country which had been previously invaded by France. The language was more widely known then..
Unless he wanted to go to Japan or other..
    4. The Baccalaureat at that time was plenty enough to get a job. It was much tougher and a lot more recognised. I do not think he would have had a tough time finding a job since there was an economic boom at the time with or without the diploma.
…………maybe he lost a limb or stg ………?:-)
    5. boy was he taking a risk !!!! The girl’ father accepted just like that ? Why ? Was he so eager to get rid of his daughter without knowing anything about the guy ? No reservation ( cultural…etc)
The way the father expresses himself is kind of abrupt :-)))
    6. There was photography at that time..Was not he able to send some pics of himself ???:-)
    7. I think there would have been more info exchanged…..
    8. How did they sustain themselves money-wise ? Whilst he pursued higher studies ? Did she work ?
How did know his language ?
hmmmmm….I would say that there are some holes needed to be filled..
(woke up too early sorry..can’t think straight yet)
edit : like Sparkles..I knew what was going to happen too..
edit : I answered you more in the other question but “system busy”..did not go through.. and..ohh !!
You could put in a bit more drama :-))
What is the title of the movie ? Indochine 2 - the sequel . What you did not know and always wondered about -) ?
    (grin)
edit : and am Spielberg lol coming with all the effects and all :-) …really tired tonight :-(..

  2. Handsome Says:

Oh! I don’t like to watch WAR film… Hate it and it is boring…
Maybe the NEW film title is Pearl Harbour 2

  3. sparkle1 Says:

I think its a…believable story (like it really happened) but its predictable for a movie. While I was reading it I knew oh okay that girl is gonna fall in love with him. Also there isn’t much of a conflict. YOu know plot line?
exposition rising action climax conflict etc?
