As a mother of a disabled child, sometimes I like to forget about it when possible, but sometimes I find it fascinating when there is a disabled character in something I am watching. Fiction or non fiction.

One of the funniest films I’ve ever seen is called ‘See no evil, hear no evil’.
It stars Richard Prior, ‘Wally’ who is blind, and Gene Wilder, ‘Dave’ who is deaf.
They are witnesses to a murder, but Wally didn’t see it and Dave didn’t hear it, but the murderer gets caught in the end, it’s a scream and I’d watch it again.
On the serious side, there’s Alfred Hichcocks ‘Rear window’ starring a wheel-chair bound James Stewart and Grace Kelly, and on TV ‘Ironside’ with Raymond Burr.

balamory on cbeebies has a disabled woman in a wheelchair, she plays penny pocket. i think its great for pre school kids. it teaches them that although everyone is different everyone is still basically the same, still part of society regardless of any disability. and to promote that from a young age will help stop prejudice as they grow.
