I recently bought a copy of the Chinese horror film "The Eye", which is about a young blind woman who starts seeing ghosts after getting an eye transplant. It was quite good, and I'm not sure how next year's Hollywood remake with Jessica Alba will be like. When I checked on the Internet Movie Database for more info about the movie, I was surprised to learn that "The Lake House" (starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock) was actually based on a Korean film. I was curious if anyone can suggest any recent non-English films (from the 1990s and onward) which were remade by Hollywood over the past decade? Understand, I'm NOT just talking about Asian horror movies like "The Grudge" or "The Ring", as I'm sure Hollywood has done remakes of non-horror movies from other countries as [+]
why they hell do they always take old 80's classics and make franchises out of them, (AVP for example, crappy film). take comic books and turn them into pieces of crap like spiderman, cheezy, Daredevil, Elektra, all sucked. now they want to take Anime and bloody americanize them, they're making a Dragonball Z live-action film which i know is gonna suck cuz they got a canadian playing Goku and he's supposed to be asian-looking and buff, not skinny. And knowing how all these damn Goldbergs and Steins think, if it's a hit they're gonna make other anime into films just to make money cuz there are morons who let things pour into their heads and don't know what a good film is, im only 19 and i think 80's films are better than 2days (The Terminator, Rambo, Comando, Top [+]

they always pair the black person with the black person or the asian with another asian, etc if it's a major film it amazes me blacks have been able to to transition to being premier actors in a variety of roles because they used to be slaves [+]

Does anyone have any suggestions of great foreign films to watch. Any Latin American, Asian, Middle Eastern, or European? I would like to take a break from American films. Thanks [+]
Generally speaking the only time I have ever seen Asians take center-stage in a Hollywood film is during some kung-fu action movie (e.g. Rush Hour) or some post-colonial domestic drama about n-generation Asian-Americans trying to trace their roots (e.g. The Joy Luck Club, The Namesake, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior). Even the Harold and Kumar movies are based off stereotypes. Most other times, Asian-Americans are either relegated to supporting cast or serve as temporary comic relief and are confined to those roles. Compared to African-Americans and Hispanic-Americans, there are few prominent Asian-Americans in Hollywood (only ones I can think of are Jackie Chan, Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Zhang Zi Yi, Kal Penn, John Cho, Brenda Song, Sandra Oh and Masi Oka). From where I stand, Asian-Americans have generally gotten the shortest end of the stick in Hollywood. Why do you think this is [+]
I just watched it and it was scary, sad, beautifully twisted, and brilliant. Asian films rock I hope Hollywood does a good job remaking it if they are doing it. [+]
"The Eye" starring Jessica Alba is a remake of the Hong Kong one, "Gin Gwai." "Possession" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar remade from the Korean one, "Jungdok." Is Hollywood low on ideas or something? What really annoys me is that there are little to no Asians in sight in the remakes. [+]
